During the three-day Annual Group Meeting in Barcelona, RestPoll members enjoyed an exciting excursion day exploring pollinator-friendly practices in Catalonia.
Field visit to IRTA’s Mas Badia Research Center
The day began with a visit to the Mas Badia research center, hosted by our partner IRTA. The facility focuses on sustainable fruit production and plant protection, offering valuable insights into practices that support pollinators. Members explored the apple orchards and observed IRTA’s research first-hand — a unique opportunity to see science in action and connect theory with practice.
Impressive technology tour at Fructícola Empordà
Next, the group visited the Fructícola Empordà cooperative, home to 25 apple producers in the Mas Badia region. Participants learned how the cooperative implements pollinator-friendly measures to support biodiversity while ensuring sustainable fruit production. The tour also highlighted the cooperative’s cutting-edge technology for sorting and storage.
Ending the day on a sweet note at Mooma
The excursion concluded at Mooma, an organic apple farm, cider house, and restaurant. Mooma’s orchards serve as a RestPoll study site, where pollinators are actively monitored to understand their role in sustainable fruit production. Members enjoyed a guided tour, learned about cider-making, and sampled some of the farm’s delicious products.
